Yangshuo Culture Shirts

It’s a popular tourist practice to buy shirts from the places they’ve been. In Yangshuo you will find many kinds of these shirts, some more sophisticated than others. There is the famous “hello banana” lady, logos of famous Yangshuo cafes and restaurants, as well as Yangshuo scenery. The most interesting are the hand painted shirts by local artists flocked around West Street. Whether you prefer a Chinese idiom or characters in calligraphy, a hand painted mountain scene or a caricature of yourself or your friends, these can all be found on West Street in Yangshuo.

Probably the best artist you’ll find is Forrest, locally known as the “Chinese Picasso”. You can find him on West Street at Café China or at his own booth on the outdoor market along the Li River docks. He is a talented landscape artist but equally gifted with quickly drawn caricatures. His smaller water colors are on display at the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat, where you will also find his artwork in guestrooms and the bar.
