COMPLIMENTARY SHUTTLE TO YANGSHUO TWICE DAILY
Moon Hill Yangshuo
Just steps away from Yangshuo Village Inn is the Yangshuo arch also known as Moon Hill Yangshuo. This other-worldly limestone dome is part of the Moon Hill Scenic Area, which consists of bamboo forests and footpaths to sheltered overlooks. Views of the dome can be seen from Yangshuo Village Inn guestrooms and rooftop restaurant, Luna. From the gate of Yangshuo Village Inn, guests can walk about five minutes through the beautifully landscaped Li Village 历村 (Lì cūn), also known as Moon Hill Village, to the 321 National Road that goes to Yangshuo and Guilin. From he village gate, Moon Hill park entrance is just 100 meters down the road. At the park entrance there is a ticket office whre each person pays RMB 14 to enter, which is good for the day. There is also a place to park bicycles just past the ticket office. From here, there are over 700 steps leading up to the summit of the hill and two junctions that lead to different sheltered viewpoints. The walk to the top is about 30 minutes and the steps can be very steep at times. There is an alternate path immediately to the right upon starting the walk up, which leads to a small pavilion and not the summit. About 1/2 of the way is another such detour left and marked with a wooden signboard. Keeping right will lead to the highest point and the dome.
Upon reaching the dome, there are a few more steps leading behind the to a pavilion, where guests will be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding karst hills. There is also a footpath leading up on top of the the Moon Hill dome itself, and worth the climb up in good weather. There are also local ladies selling cold drinks at a reasonable price. We advise guests to bring refillable water from the hotel, but we also encourage support of these hard working village ladies who carry up these heavy coolers on a shoulder pole. There are public toilets at the bottom of the hill as well as a small restaurant serving simple food. Moon Hill Yangshuo is a must-visit for guests at Yangshuo Village Inn and is a great outdoor adventure activity in all seasons for everyone.
Liu Sanjie Show
For the past 10 years the nightly perfomance, Liúsānjié 刘三姐, has been dazzling visitors to Yangshuo。 Staged outdoors on the Li River, Liu Sanjie is a love story about a local woman with an enchanting voice named Liu Sanjie, which means "third sister". The show is 70 minutes and features hundreds of local village performers in native costumes, all coreographed by film director Zhang Yimou. Zhang, who also directed such acclaimed films as Red Sorgum and created the opening ceremony for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, uses powerful lighting effects and music for an experience that is truly unique. Liu Sanjie is performed 365 days a year in all weather but heavy rains, with twice nightly shows to packed stands of thousands. The river stage is just 15 minutes from Yangshuo Village Inn and we provide paid transportation. There are varying prices for tickets, depending on the type and location of seats. We recommend guests opt for the middle bucket seats which cost 328 RMB. Liu Sanjie tickets can sometimes be difficult to get at the last minute, especially during peak tourist season in Yangshuo. The safest way is for us to book Liu Sanjie tickets for you at no commission. On our room reservation checkout page, you can indicate what day you want to see the Liu Sanjie show and we will book the tickets for you in advance. You can see more information about Liu Sanjie performance times and more seat options on the Liu Sanjie section of our Culture page.
Yangshuo Mountain Retreat
Located on the banks of the Yulong River in the heart of the Ten Mile Gallery Scenic Area, our sister hotel Yangshuo Mountain Retreat has been delighting guests from around the world since 2001. With 32 rooms, a full-service restaurant and staffed by women from surrounding villages, Yangshuo Mountain Retreat offers a rustic elegance with warm service and stunning views of the surrounding karst mountains and river. Named by National Geographic as one of the world's best ecolodges, Yangshuo Mountain Retreat has always succeeded on the core values of localism and sustainability. We designed furnishings made from our bamboo trees that was cut on the property, and is still in use today. Other materials used to build the Retreat were salvaged from demolition projects in the town. The Retreat were one of the first hotels in China with a no-single-use products policy, and has been recognized by such organizations as Mekong Tourism as being a model of sustainability in China. This includes practices such as treating the property's own drinking water and wastewater, raising their own chickens and fish. Offering a natural environment of unparalleled beauty, Yangshuo Mountain Retreat hosts weddings, corporate events and is a favorite of Asia expats in the know. It has become a peaceful oasis for families and small group travelers to Yangshuo who want to experience authentic local hospitality and unspoiled countryside accommodation.
Our Yunnan sister hotel
Tucked away in the foothills of the Himalays in Northwest Yunnan Province is the beautifully preserved market town of Shaxi. The town lies in a high valley between the tourist centers of Dali and Lijiang and played an important part as a market town in the ancient Tea Horse Road caravan trade. Overlooking emerald rice fields in Duan Village, is an opera stage complex built in 1782. This theatre also houses a Daoist shrine where local families come to pray for their children's success in examinations. The temple complex, which includes a courtyard with guestrooms and a restaurant, is the stunning Old Theatre Inn. The eight-time TripAdvisor Traveler's Choice Award winner is a collaboration between a local teacher and a long-time American designer in China and features just five distinct guestrooms. There are five local women from Duan VIllage who run the Old Theatre Inn, who in their spare time also work in their family fields nearby, ensuring there is always fresh produce for the Old Theatre kitchen. The Dancing Mule is the Old Theatre's restaurant, offering indoor and outdoor dining year round. A world away from the touristed Yangshuo hotels or those of its neighbors in Dali or Lijiang, Old Theatre Inn offers a glimpse into the past, with authentic rural life, walking paths through traditional villages along the Heihui River 黑惠江 and into Shaxi Ancient Town. The The Shaxi Friday Market is also a must see, teeming with local traders and minority women in traditional dress, as well as Shibaoshan, a mountain temple complex in the national park above Shaxi, housing a Buddhist nunnery and hidden grottoes over 1,000 yeard old.
